One of our favorite topics as of late has been the major changes made to the Cake Poker tournament line-up. Their move to the Revolution Gaming network has brought plenty of huge guaranteed poker tournaments with it, including both a $100,000 Guaranteed and $65,000 Guaranteed Super Stack.
Obviously there’s some big money to be won through these tourneys, but what you may not know is that Cake are covering a large part of the prize pool due to overlays. Seeing as these prize pool discrepancies offer major expected value to players, it’s definitely worth taking a look at some recent Cake Poker tournament overlays.
$100k Guaranteed features $25k Overlay
On June 18th, 2012, we checked out the $100,000 Guaranteed and saw that only 748 players anted up the $100 + $9 buy-in. What’s significant about this is that the players only covered $74,800 of the prize pool – meaning Cake had to cover the other $25,200. Essentially, the entrants got a free $25k added to the prize pool, which is some amazing value! As for the tournament’s results, “makkar” took first place along with $18,750.
$65k Guaranteed offers $16k Overlay
The great deals continued on June 18th since the $65,000 Guaranteed Super Stack event saw just 98 players pay the $500 + $30 buy-in to enter. Their buy-ins covered $49,000 of the prize pool while Cake fronted the remaining $16,000. “Suvaline4” was the biggest recipient of this high roller event after collecting $17,875 for winning.
